Memorial Day was originally celebrated to honor those who died in the American Civil War, and was celebrated by different people on different days. As time passed, Memorial Day has come to be celebrated as an American national holiday, and rather than focusing on those who died in the Civil War, it honors all Americans who have died in any war. Although it can be a solemn day for anyone remembering loved ones they have lost, it is also an excellent opportunity to be happy and enjoy the life afforded to us by brave men and women who sacrificed their lives to protect it.
At TRG, we observe this holiday every year. It is superb motivation to get outside into the spring weather. Sitting atop a mountain peak is a good position to survey the land below while contemplating the meaning of Memorial Day. Many of us already have plans to escape into the wilderness.
This year, the wind is whipping through the trees, and quarter-sized snowflakes are falling as we prepare for the holiday weekend in Bozeman, Montana. Despite the fact that some outdoor activities may be hampered by Montana’s unique and unpredictable weather systems, we will no doubt enjoy the holiday. Some of us will be visiting Yellowstone National Park, some will be catching up on long lost sleep, and some are actually considering a back-country skiing voyage. Regardless of the destination, TRG employees will be celebrating Memorial Day doing what they love most, and silently thanking those who have given so much to make that possible.
Make sure to keep an eye on our Twitter account, as well as our Facebook and Google+ pages for great pictures of adventures TRG employees have gotten themselves into over the holiday. If you’re planning something exciting for Memorial Day, share it with us—the only thing better than a holiday adventure is sharing it with others.
